What is Reflexology

Reflexologists believe that reflex points on the feet mirror the organs and systems of the body.

Reflexology is an ancient therapy of acupressure, dating back to over 4000 years, first practiced by Native Indians, the Chinese and the Egyptians. '

Using thumb and finger techniques on reflex points on the feet the Reflexologist will use acupressure techniques, in order to stimulate healing, or to clear energy pathways or blockages (meridians) that run throughout the body. It is also used to clear blockages within Chakras to increase energy flow.

As different reflex points on the feet or hands, mirror certain areas of the body,  it makes it possible for the Reflexologist to discover parts of your body that are 'disturbed' or ' out of balance ' or congested' he/she will then work to rebalance them. Sometimes this will take more that just one treatment, depending upon how long the condition has been present.

Reflexology is a holistic treatment, which means it not only works on a prevailing condition, but also encourages the body to heal itself as a whole.

It may be used once a week or once a month, as part of a healthy maintenance program, alongside good nutrition and regular exercise, in order to reduce the risk of long term ailments.

Clinical practice

Today in the world reflexology it is practiced in Hospitals, Clinical centers and Hospices, as a valid complimentary support and integration to standard therapies (cancer, pregnancy, pain, stress and anxiety disorders, etc.) or as a substitute of some pharmacological procedures (in some limited situations) and as an useful instrument in relaxing and anti-stress therapies. In the United States, United Kingdom, China, India, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway it is already widely used and gaining in recognition.
